Jewish Book Carnival: October 2022

Welcome to the Carnival

My self-titled blog, Heidi Slowinski LLC, is proud to host the October Jewish Book Carnival. This is a monthly event, bringing together those who cover Jewish literature online to “meet, read, and comment on each other’s posts”. Organized by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL), the Carnival is hosted by a different participant’s site on the 15th of every month.

The October Carnival

  • At The Book of Life Podcast, Heidi Rabinowitz interviews Shoshana Nambi about her debut picture book, The Very Best Sukkah: A Story from Uganda. Shoshana is a member of the Abayudaya, the Jewish community of Uganda, and is in the U.S. studying at Hebrew Union College to become the country’s first female rabbi. This delightful story, rich with authentic detail, was named to the Association of Jewish Libraries’ Fall 2022 Holiday Highlights list. Listen or read a transcript at https://jewishbooks.blogspot.com/2022/10/the-very-best-sukkah.html.
  • On her blog, Book Q&As with Deborah Kalb, Deborah interviewed Jacqueline Jules about her two new children’s books, My Name Is Hamburger and The Porridge-Pot Goblin.
  • This month Gila Green is happy to welcome Joanne Levy to gilagreenwrites to discuss an important and often overlooked topic.
  • Mirta Ines Trupp was honored to host New York Times best-selling author Alina Adams on her blog. Please join the ladies as they discuss Alina’s newest work and her thoughts on Jewish historical fiction.
  • On her My Machberet blog, Erika Dreifus routinely compiles news of Jewish literary interest. Here’s one recent post.
  • At Jewish Books for Kids and More, Barbara Bietz interviews Gloria Koster about her charming new picture book, DANCE THE HORA,  ISADORA, illustrated by Barbara Bongini (Apples&Honey Press).
  • Barbara Krasner at The Whole Megillah interviews author Tami Lehman-Wilzig about her new picture book, The Boston Chocolate Party, co-authored with Rabbi Deborah R. Prinz and illustrated by Fede Combi, published this month by Apples & Honey Press.

And here on Heidi Slowinski LLC, I recently had the pleasure of reviewing A Daughter’s Kaddish by Sarah Birnbach. In her touching memoir, Birnbach discusses her journey through the ritual of mourning and it’s role in helping her reconnect with her faith.

Thank you

I would like to thank all of the bloggers to contributed to this month’s Carnival. Please take a few moments to visit each of their sites. Show your support by leaving a ‘like’ or a comment on their posts.
